Atlanta Community Food Bank Opens New Community Food Center in Jonesboro

Increases access to food for neighbors in need in Clayton County

The Atlanta Community Food Bank, the central hub in the fight against hunger in Atlanta and North Georgia, is expanding its services and further connecting areas in need with vital food and resources. The Community Food Center - Jonesboro marks the third of its kind for the Food Bank. Community Food Centers (CFCs) are direct-to-families food pantries operated by the Atlanta Community Food Bank and its volunteers.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support from our partners that enabled us to open a new Community Food Center in the Clayton County community. We establish CFCs in areas where local resources are insufficient to meet the needs of families living with food insecurity,” said Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank. “CFCs are becoming an integral part of our extensive network of agencies that serve local communities. The addition of these centers is part of our long-term strategic plan to make access easier for those in need.”

Located at 6805 Tara Blvd., Jonesboro, GA 30236, an official ribbon cutting ceremony is slated for May 1, 2024, at 10:00 am to commemorate the opening. Attending guests will be invited to tour the facility and learn more about the current endeavors of the Food Bank.

The newest Community Food Center is 9200 sq. ft. and will operate as a food pantry, distributing food directly to local families. The new site is anticipated to help approximately 300 families a week and will continue to scale up as needed.

The Jonesboro Community Food Center is made possible in part by the generous support of the following founding donors: Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, Kaiser Permanente of Georgia, Publix Super Market Charities, Subramonian and Lakshmi Shankar, Tull Charitable Foundation, and the Olives Family Foundation.

“The Atlanta Community Food Bank has long been committed to ending hunger in the greater Atlanta and North Georgia areas,” said Amy Atwood, vice president of communications and philanthropy for Takeda’s U.S. business unit and U.S. region. “With the opening of Jonesboro Community Food Center, they will provide a vital resource for the residents of Clayton County, and we are proud to be a partner in their efforts to ensure everyone has access to healthy foods in our communities."

About Atlanta Community Food Bank

The Atlanta Community Food Bank works to end hunger with the food, people, and big ideas needed to ensure our neighbors have the nourishment to lead healthy and productive lives. Far too many people in our own community experience hunger every day. Through nearly 700 community-based, nonprofit partners in 29 counties, we help thousands of families, children, and seniors get healthy food every year. Our goal is that all hungry people across metro Atlanta and north Georgia will have access to the nutritious meals they need when they need them. It takes the power of our whole community to make that possible. In 2023, the Atlanta Community Food Bank distributed its one billionth meal. Join us at ACFB.org.
