Filmed in the Hawaiian Islands. A twist on the well known "Deadliest Catch"
Don't miss it!

NEW YORK & LOS ANGELES & NEW ORLEANS & AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- "Pacific Warriors" premieres Friday, Oct. 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Discovery Channel

A new show premieres tonight on Discovery, Pacific Warriors. Shot in the Hawaiian Islands, here a select few make their living risking their lives. They have reinvented the ancient art of fishing. By sea kayak, and less than a mile off shore down below exists a sea kingdom they wish to conquer, and wrestle in 110lb tuna or 500lb Marlin. Putting on the line is not only their live bait they use to catch these monsters, but on the hook is their own life and limb to make their seasonal revenue goals and provide for their families.

What once was done from handmade canoes and using more primitive equipment, a handful of people in these islands have transformed the sport of fishing, and both men and women are willing to put themselves at great danger to live off the ocean from a sea kayak. They crave that vulnerability, as it is what makes them feel alive. These people are not just fishermen; they are part adventurer, and part explorer—a one-man or one-woman crew, as they are their own captain, angler, and motor all in one.

In 80 degrees of water the Pacific Ocean, Hawaii is booming with big fish.
Known for their huge cliffs that sharply drop off of the coastline, these islands created by volcanic eruptions make for a perfect environment to big-game fish. For centuries indigious people of these islands have been catching fish from old handmade canoes. Stars of the show, Rob & Andy’s family have flourished by fishing off the waters of the Big Island and have re-invented the methods and equipment. Andy has won numerous world records, including bringing in the largest blue marlin from a sea kayak. Where they fish, it is the big tuna, mahi-mahi, and ono (wahoo) that bring in the big bucks.

Not all fishermen walk into this profession by right of passage, character "Boogie D" is a long-time kayak fisherman who now strictly trains those who wish to become a part of this dangerous sport and make a living doing it. In the first episode, you will see what it takes to become a kayak fisherman for big sport, and how difficult and treacherous the seas can be, especially to a novice.

You’ll get to meet Kimi Werner, probably the most famous and skilled free diving spear fisherman in the world. In multiple death-defying free dives she performs in a day, she can hold her breath for 4 minutes each dive as she searches for “tacos” with her “taco eye.” What she’s in search of are octopuses that are a food staple on the islands. Kimi likes to bring home her catches to her family, and becomes emotional in her explanation of what it means to her to hunt for what will feed her family, yet the conflict she feels by the life taken from the sea. It’s not just about fishing and making money. These people feel a spiritual connection to the waters which they rely upon.

Shot in the breathtaking and stunning Hawaiian islands, this show is thrilling and majestic. The footage is incredibly beautiful, and this is not your typical outdoor fishing show. This is a show for those who love to watch people survive doing what they do best, and much like the drama that unfolds on The Deadliest Catch, you will find yourself on the edge of your seat, pulling for the guy or gal to get the job done, and not get hurt.
