Take part in the epic clash between dream and nightmare in ‘There Was a Dream,’ an open-world adventure game for PC.

Thereis a new-found interest in open-world games that the Keydare Project, the developers behind There Was a Dream, are looking to explore. Get thrust in the visceral action of There Was a Dream through combat and exploration of vast landscapes and towns inspired by the Italian countryside. At its core, There Was a Dream is not another one-off story, but rather an epic journey thats going to take you through a number of adventures where you will be protecting dreams from outside threats.

We are extremely delighted to introduce a one-of-a-kind open-world epic adventure, There Was a Dream.Experience a magical adventure and take part in the epic clash between dream and nightmare, where the decisions you make will be the scales that will determine the outcome of the game after every move. In other words, we are offering you a game where you can be more engaged and where your actions concretely affect the game world, depending on the choices you make and the side you choose,” states Keydare Project co-founder Fabrizio Cosenza.

There Was A Dream is a single-player adventure game set in a dream and features various elements to make the gameplay interesting. These elements include farming, crafting, combat, puzzle elements, sandbox exploration, and a lot more. All these elements come together to create an epic adventure that makes up a truly one-of-a-kind experience.

In the world of There Was A Dream, you find yourself living a lucid dream. You have been chosen by an entity; a dark force that travels in the dimension of dreams, and that has given you the power to manipulate dreams. Xehor, an alien whose race has already come into contact with the entity thousands of years before, will be with you on this journey, teaching you the secrets of the dream dimension. The purpose of the Entity is to increase its army of nightmares, and the great power it has given you can take you on its dark mission, or you can make the decision to save dreams. The decision is entirely yours, which is what makes playing There Was a Dream so much more interesting as compared to other open-world games.”

The Entity is always looking for a way to pass, and through the wells, it tries to go up to the surface to infect the other dreamers. Having been chosen by the Entity to manipulate this area of the oneiric dimension, you will have to manage the balance between dream and nightmare. When the nightmare creates a whirlwind over a village, you can decide whether or not to help the inhabitants. This choice, along with how you will decide to help strangers and the way you interact with the NPCs and animals in the game world, will affect the dream-o-meter. The closer this sensor is to the nightmare, the more the game world and the people who live in it will change. You can explore, fight, and live this dark moment and give Entity complete freedom, or you can restore the dream and return to the lively and cheerful everyday world.

Playing There Was a Dream is easy. You will descend underground to battle the Entity and its creatures in order to restore peace. Returning to the capital, you will report to the police station to gain experience and upgrade your equipment. During the game, you can accept trade and delivery missions, which involve searching for the right items or crafting them. Sometimes you’ll need to take control of your kitten, using his feline senses to find objects hidden from view. Of course, theres going to be a lot more involvement of your avatar during gameplay. Random encounters will also take place, with NPCs asking for your help, such as chasing away an angry animal or retrieving an object carried away by the wind or looking for someone missing, by investigating the reported areas. You can approach the animals that populate the world by sneaking around or moving around in the bushes. Some animals are more aggressive than others, so stay alert at all times.”

Inspired by the Italian countryside, the game world is vast and varied. There are hills, cultivated fields, rivers, and lakes. The game world is crossed by a road that connects all the key points. The river to the north divides the map in two and flows between the mountain and the sea. Apart from the various places to explore, each area has its own towns inspired by the Italian countryside, such as Rocca Levante, Porto Riviera, Monte Neve, Borgo Quieto, and many more. Each town has a unique structure, which gives the players plenty of opportunities to explore and save as many dreams as they can.

As a secondary activity, you can purchase, customize, and train a horse on an obstacle course to increase its endurance. Craft a fishing rod to fish, upgrade your tent, grow vegetables on a farm, collect eggs, or get milk from the cows. You can move around on horseback, by car, boat, or train. We are going to need all your support to get this project off the ground and would really appreciate it if you could help us spread the word by sharing our Kickstarter campaign on social media.”

The game features 10 main characters from which to choose from and 100 NPCs that you can interact with, along with more than 100 inventory items to use, craft, or trade during gameplay. Youll get to choose from 5 unique biomes and explore more than a dozen cities and villages, and trade with NPCs and shops along your journey. The developers plan to release the game on Windows via Steam, and its going to be available in multiple languages.
