Intelligent Medical Objects to Highlight Data Enablement Solutions at HIMSS 2023

Team will be showcasing how diverse solutions improve quality of healthcare data

Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO), a healthcare data enablement company, will be at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting to showcase its diverse solutions that improve the quality of healthcare data. With a 30-year history of solving clinical terminology issues for partners across healthcare, IMO is uniquely positioned to leverage its foundation in terminology to normalize and standardize data to assist wherever innovation and healthcare intersect.

“IMO is doing for other parts of healthcare what it did in the early days for health IT and electronic health records. We make data work across ecosystems by leveraging healthcare terminology and coding, and turning the complex into high-value, actionable data,” said Ann Barnes, IMO’s CEO.

IMO will be at Booth # 1739 at HIMSS and will be showcasing demos of current products. Below is a summary of recent news and partner highlights from IMO:

Upcoming product launches target value set management, data normalization, problem list insights

In response to market demands and customer feedback, IMO has been working to make updates to its suite of solutions to target some of the biggest health IT challenges. Later this year, there will be general availability of products with these new capabilities:

  • Value set creation and maintenance. Combining EHR-ready value set packages and brand-new authorship functionality, IMO Precision Sets simplifies and accelerates how organizations create, update, and publish value sets. It empowers clinicians and analysts to easily find clinically relevant patient conditions, tests, and treatments to isolate codes that appropriately define clinical concepts. Improved value set means data quality at scale for reliable patient cohorts, clearer insights, and consistent reporting.
  • Natural language processing (NLP). IMO Precision Normalize, a data standardization tool, will be updated with NLP capabilities which adds the ability to ingest and standardize both structured and unstructured data with NLP.
  • Problem list insights. IMO Discovery for Problems will provide physicians with insights into relevant information that is not listed in the patient chart. It analyzes various patient data from previous encounters and unstructured clinical notes not documented on the problem list and notifies the clinician as they work in their patient’s chart. Suggestions are based on hierarchical condition categories and other chronic conditions from prior encounters that could be relevant to the patient’s care plan. These suggestions provide a more complete picture of the patient record in one holistic view.

Helping patients with the language of healthcare

IMO is focused on reducing the complexity of patient friendly terminology due to recent regulations from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services that prohibit information blocking and increase price transparency. An initial library of 3,000 of the most used terms in surgical practice has been integrated into IMO Core Periop, IMO’s surgical scheduling solution. This enhanced offering is gaining traction with health systems and surgical centers looking to communicate more effectively with patients by seamlessly presenting clear and simple procedure descriptions in patient portals, check-in kiosks, and billing documentation. IMO launches IMO Studio for Epic clients

IMO Studio enables a holistic clinical data quality strategy for healthcare organizations. With IMO Studio, clients will be able to efficiently access and manage clinical terminology, code sets, and data quality through a single cloud-based SaaS entry point to all IMO tools. With one consistent interface, clients have consolidated access to clinical terminology and standardized reference data, data normalization, provider workflow optimization, and value set management. Clients who use IMO Studio will also be well positioned to implement additional solutions from IMO for surgical and procedure terminology, value set editing and management, and data normalization. The first wave of upgrades will begin with providers using the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system in July. Read more here.

IMO Survey highlights provider priorities in 2023

In March IMO released the results of a new survey that uncovered a few surprising findings and some seemingly universal truths about the challenges United States provider organizations face and how they plan to improve patient care in the coming years. IMO wanted to find out more about what providers prioritized while facing a myriad of internal and external challenges. Read more here.
