Macquarie Capital Names John Pickhaver Head of Infrastructure & Energy Capital, Americas

  • Mr. Pickhaver will oversee principal investments and development activities across Macquarie Capital’s Infrastructure and Energy Capital (IEC) group in the Americas
  • He will leverage Macquarie Capital’s specialized expertise to further expand its presence and capabilities as demand for infrastructure grows in the United States, Canada and Latin America

Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory, capital markets and principal investing arm of Macquarie Group, today announced that it has named John Pickhaver Head of Infrastructure and Energy Capital (IEC) for the Americas. He will oversee principal investment and development activities in the region, including investing in development and infrastructure in transition for clients and communities.

Mr. Pickhaver, who was most recently Co-Head of Macquarie Capital in Australia and New Zealand, has more than two decades of experience in the finance and infrastructure sectors both as a civil engineer and in infrastructure finance. In his 18 years with Macquarie Group, he has led development projects in transportation, social, digital and energy transition infrastructure. He has also overseen principal investments, corporate and project financings and M&A for corporates, financial sponsors and governments.

“Macquarie Capital has one of the longest and most successful track records of developing and financing core and transition infrastructure globally. The opportunity for further investment in the Americas region is a key growth area and priority for Macquarie. John’s relocation underscores Macquarie’s commitment to the region and its substantial potential, as we continue to develop essential infrastructure for our communities,” said Mark Bradshaw, Global Head of Infrastructure and Energy Capital, Macquarie Capital.

Macquarie Capital has been an active developer, investor and sponsor to innovative projects, corporates and government entities, including public-private partnerships (P3s), in the Americas for more than 20 years.

“In the US, we anticipate accelerated growth in infrastructure development as a result of positive policy developments, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the Inflation Reduction Act. In Latin America, a shift toward urbanization and ongoing economic development will drive the need for infrastructure across multiple segments of those economies,” said Mr. Pickhaver. “I look forward to leading the experienced and dedicated IEC team and leveraging our deep global expertise to grow our presence in the Americas.”

Recent transactions in the Americas include the $US2.3 billion Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Bridges P3 to design, build, finance and maintain several major bridges in critical need of rehabilitation and replacement, and the strategic partnership with Prime Data Centers, a California-based company that provides data center solutions to wholesale customers across the Americas and Europe.

Macquarie Capital recently financed and launched Aerogy, a U.S.-based platform that develops, operates and invests in renewable natural gas (RNG) projects. In Latin America, the group led a consortium in Chile providing capital improvements, maintenance and operations for Ruta Minera, a private industrial road that connects the Minera Escondida copper mine to a key north-south highway in the country.
